  • Q. I have a Wi-Fi Hound that is stuck at the loading screen. How can I download the firmware or software to reflash this device?
    A. There is no way to reflash the unit remotely. There is a reset button on the left hand side of the unit, the bottom opening below the charge port. Press this button down for 10 seconds, then allow the unit to reboot. If the device is still stuck in a boot process, you would need to send it in to be repaired. To send the unit in, please use the RMA form. This form details how and where to send your unit in for repairs. Under “RMA Number”, you may put “Repair”, and an RMA number will be generated upon your unit's arrival.
  • Q. What is Triplett WiFi Hound?
    A. The WiFi Hound is a Spectrum Analyzer designed so that even Level 1 Field Technicians can effectively assess and troubleshoot the wireless environment, and communicate those problems (and potential solutions) to the home or business owner. It works on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, including Zigbee. IT DOES NOT TEST Z-WAVE since Z-Wave broadcasts in a different frequency.
  • Q. What is a Spectrum Analyzer vs just the free app on your phone?
    A. A spectrum analyzer shows everything that is happening in the spectrum, regardless of what is creating the signal. You will often see free apps people use on their phone or tablet that show other Access Points that are broadcasting in the area. However, those Apps are not able to show EVERYTHING in the spectrum, and it’s all that other stuff that is often causing problems. That is the fundamental difference between those “free” apps and this Tester. Those free apps will only get you so far; they are not true Spectrum Analyzers.
  • Q. How Does a WiFi Spectrum Analyzer Work?
    A. A wireless spectrum analyzer works by conducting thorough scans of the airwaves to gather data on signals within a specific frequency range. This advanced device has the ability to detect not only WiFi signals from surrounding networks but also non-WiFi devices that may potentially interfere, such as microwave ovens or Bluetooth devices. Insights collected by a WiFi spectrum analyzer are then presented in a visual format, often through easy-to-understand graphs or heatmaps.
  • Q. How to Use a WiFi Spectrum Analyzer?
    A. Here is how to use a WiFi spectrum analyzer:
    1. Install the analyzer software on a compatible device. You can use a laptop or tablet for this purpose.
    2. After the software installation, the next step involves connecting the WiFi signal analyzer to your device using a USB or Ethernet connection.
    3. Configure the analyzer to scan the desired frequency range, which can range from 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.
    4. Start the scanning process after the configuration.
    5. The data gained on all the wireless signals in the frequency range you specified will be displayed on the analyzer software. The data will be mostly in the form of a spectrum graph or heatmap.
