Know More About Triplett Portable Battery Coolant/Glycol Refractometers
Features of Our Antifreeze Refractometers
An antifreeze refractometer is a versatile tool commonly used to accurately determine the glycol concentration in coolants, battery fluids, and, heat transfer fluids. Here are some beneficial features of our glycol measuring devices.
- They offer refractive index measurements that help maintain solutions below their required freezing points. This prevents freezing in cool weather and engine overheating in hot conditions.
- Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC) is one of the most essential features of our glycol refractometers, as the refractive index of liquids changes with temperature. Therefore, it makes the refractometer a valuable tool for cooling system efficiency, protects it, and helps maintain accuracy in determining the concentration of the solution.
- The inclusion of ATC technology is a game-changer as it automatically makes changes according to the ambient temperature. This feature guarantees that the refractometer remains accurate and reliable even in environments where temperatures fluctuate.
- For most of our devices, this temperature ranges from 50°F to 86°F (10°C to 30°C).
- You can easily calibrate this device with distilled water.
- We also offer a kit which comprises a glycol refractometer, screwdriver, cleaning cloth, pipette, and case.
Applications of Portable Battery Coolant/Glycol Refractometers
Our glycol measuring devices require just about two or three drops of the solution to offer accurate measurement. Also, they offer a versatility that extends beyond determining glycol concentration. Propylene glycol refractometers and ethylene glycol refractometers ensure optimal performance, safety, and efficiency in various industrial processes. Following are some common applications of a glycol refractometer.
- Measurement of glycol concentrations: Measuring concentration in coolant and antifreeze solutions portable battery coolant precisely confirms that the coolant's freezing point remains safely below freezing temperatures, preventing engine block damage due to ice formation. They also help raise the coolant's boiling point, preventing overheating and facilitating efficient engine operations. If you're an industrial systems technician or a mechanic repairing or maintaining car engines, Triplett's glycol refractometers are a tool you can use to ensure optimal engine performance.
- Testing of anti-freeze solutions: Glycol refractometers can test antifreeze solutions, especially in regions with cold climates. Maintaining correct glycol concentration ensures that the antifreeze solutions' equilibrium is precisely balanced. Refractometers guarantee protection against engine freezing, expensive repairs, and engine block cracks. Portable battery coolants provide vehicle functionality in the coldest seasons, whether you are a professional mechanic or an automotive enthusiast.
- Coolant mixture analysis: Portable battery coolant/glycol refractometers are indispensable for analyzing coolant mixtures. Whether used in a residential or commercial setting, glycol refractometers significantly optimize heat transfer and energy efficiency. Portable battery coolants ensure the glycol-to-water ratio in the coolant mixture, leading to efficient temperature maintenance and decreased energy consumption. Glycol refractometers are also known as sustainability champions as they help in financial savings and are considered eco-friendly to some extent.
- Acid battery monitoring: Glycol refractometers have the ability to monitor battery acid solutions. Portable battery coolants maintain a correct specific gravity of battery acid solutions, essential for prolonged battery life and optimal engine performance. They assess the state of charge and overall battery health which prevents unnecessary replacements.
How to Use a Glycol Refractometer?
Our portable battery coolant is used to ensure the glycol concentration in the coolant or test antifreeze solutions. To use it efficiently, you can follow these steps.
- Step 1: Open the daylight plate on your glycol refractometer. Put 2-3 drops of distilled water on the main prism. This ensures it is clean and free of bubbles. Close the daylight plate gently, allowing the water to cover the prism without bubbles or dry spots. Wait 30 seconds for the sample and the prism to adjust to the room temperature. This ensures precise readings.
- Step 2: Now we need to focus and observe while holding the daylight plate to a light source like a lamp or sunlight. When you look into the eyepiece, you'll see a circular field with a scale inside. If the scale isn't precise, adjust the eyepiece until the numbers become sharp and distinct. While looking through the eyepiece, the top part of the field should be blue and the bottom should be white.
- Step 3: Look into the eyepiece; you'll notice a line separating blue and white areas. Use the calibration screw to carefully adjust it until this line aligns up perfectly with the zero on the scale. This finishes the calibration, ensuring your refractometer is ready to give accurate readings.
- Additional calibration tips:
- You need to ensure the room temperature matches the recommended temperature for your solution, usually -20℃/68℉.
- Recalibration is needed if the room temperature changes by more than 5℉.
- While recalibrating ATC glycol refractometer, ensure the room temperature matches the recommended value – 20℃/68℉.
- Once calibrated, your refractometer remains accurate within the specified temperature range (typically 10℃-30℃).
- Step 4: It's time to measure the glycol concentration in your sample. Place a few drops of your sample onto the main prism. Quickly close the daylight plate to secure the sample and look through the eyepiece to see where the blue and white areas meet the scale. The scale gives you a direct reading of glycol concentration in your solution.
