Ethernet Patch Cables

Ethernet patch cables are used to connect two different devices on a network such as a modem and router, a switch and computer, and so on. It has RJ45 connectors at both ends. They utilize the Ethernet standard, which defines the rules for data transmission over wired networks. These are unshielded twisted pair (UTP) with at least four or more pairs in a single cable. Triplett offers various types of these patch cables such as Cat5 and Cat5e patch cables among others. We offer color coded cables in different sizes and grades. These are mostly for indoor use, such as in data centers, enterprises, small and large commercial establishments, and so on.

Know More About Triplett Ethernet Patch Cables

What Are Ethernet Patch Cables?

Also called Ethernet cables, network cables, or LAN cables, Ethernet patch cables connect devices within a Local Area Network (LAN) or among two or more LANs across locations. These cables come with RJ45 connectors on each end, which can be simply plugged into Ethernet ports on the concerned devices on the network, such as computers, routers, switches, and more. Ethernet patch cables can be used for direct point-to-point connections between devices without the need for a network switch, facilitating quick and temporary connections.

Types of Ethernet Patch Cables

Here are some types of Ethernet patch cables we offer.

  • Cat5e Patch Cables: While there are better and advanced versions of Ethernet cables from Cat6 or 7 onwards, Category 5e (Cat5e) cables are still widely used type of Ethernet cables even today, especially in small-sized legacy networks. They support data transmission speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps (1 Gigabit per second) and are suitable for home and small business networks.
  • Cat6 Patch Cables: Category 6 (Cat6) cables being an advanced version then Cat5e offer better performance and bandwidth. They support data transmission speeds of up to 10,000 Mbps (10 Gigabits per second) over short distances, making them suitable for large networks.
  • Cat6a Patch Cables: Category 6a (Cat6a) cables are a further advancement in Cat 6 cables. They provide even higher data transmission speeds and superior performance, especially over longer distances. Cat6a cables are commonly used in data centers and enterprise-grade networks.

What is the Difference Between Patch Cable and Network Cable?

Patch cable is a specific type of network cable used for short-distance connections within a LAN, typically with RJ45 connectors on both ends. On the other hand, network cable is a more general term used to describe any cable used in networking applications such as Ethernet cables (patch cables) coaxial cables, and fiber optic cables.

Where Are Ethernet Patch Cables Used?

Ethernet patch cables are used in various private and LAN networks across businesses, educational institutions, retail and commercial establishments, manufacturing units, and so on to establish connections between devices within a single LAN or among two or more distantly located LANs. Here are some common application areas of our Ethernet patch cables.

  • Home-based Business Networks: Ethernet patch cables are widely used in small-scale networks for businesses operated from homes. They facilitate interconnections between computers and network switches, laptops and printers, and more. Other home-based applications include connecting routers to gaming consoles, smart TVs, CCTV cameras, and more.
  • Offices and Commercial Spaces: In office environments, Ethernet patch cables are used to connect computers, printers, IP phones, network switches, and other devices to the office network infrastructure.
  • Data Centers: Data centers have tremendous amounts of devices and wires which need to be streamlined. Ethernet patch cables connect servers, routers and network switches to storage devices on server racks and data center cabinets.
  • Network Patch Panels: Ethernet patch cables are used to connect devices to network patch panels. Patch panels serve as a centralized point for managing network connections and facilitate easy cable organization.
  • Network Switches and Modems: Ethernet patch cables connect network switches or modems to wireless routers, servers, and other network devices, allowing data packets to be forwarded across the network wirelessly. It allows computers, laptops and other devices to wirelessly connect to the modem or switch.
  • Wall Outlets: In commercial buildings and homes, Ethernet patch cables are often used to connect devices to wall outlets with RJ45 ports, providing convenient access to the local network.
  • Network Testing and Troubleshooting: Ethernet patch cables are used by network engineers to test device connectivity and troubleshoot network-related issues.
