The Triplett Model SLM850 Dosimeter measures total noise exposure (%dose) in the work place over an 8 hour period. Fast and easy on-site surveys help determine noise reduction requirements that need to be implemented in accordance with OSHA, MSHS, DOD, ACGIH, ISO85, and ISO90 standards. One user-programmable measurement setup can also be configured and saved. In addition, SLM (sound level meter) mode can be used for the evaluation of environmental noise and assessment of product noise. In SLM mode, you can datalog up to 1000k readings.  The meter features A/C/Z frequency weighting, Fast/Slow/Impulse/Peak time weighting, and user settable SPL (dB) and Peak (dB) alarms. The built-in USB interface is used for initial setup of the test parameters. Recorded events can then be uploaded to your PC for further analysis and storage. Includes windscreen, USB cable, software CD, 9V battery, belt clip, and carrying case. 1 year warranty. The SLM850-NIST includes the Certificate of Traceability to N.I.S.T.

*SLM850-NIST Comes with Certificate of traceability to NIST Standards

  • Q: I've noticed most ear plugs, including ones I'm considering, are rated at dB32. What is a typical and safe dB level for the human ear? When would I need to use earplugs with a dB32 rating?
A: Noise levels above 70 dB over extended periods can start to damage hearing. Extremely loud noises, surpassing 120 dB, can cause immediate damage. The dB32 rating of earplugs indicates the amount of noise reduction they provide. For specific applications of your earplugs or hearing protection, it's best to consult with the manufacturer directly. It's worth noting that OSHA mandates employers to initiate a hearing conservation program when noise exposure reaches or exceeds 85 decibels averaged over an 8-hour workday, known as the 8-hour time-weighted average (TWA).
  • Q. What is Triplett SLM400-KIT Sound Level Meter with Calibrator Kit?
    A. Triplett SLM400-KIT Sound Level Meter (SLM) with Calibrator Kit is a comprehensive package that includes a sound level meter instrument along with a calibrator. The calibrator is a reference tool used to verify and adjust the accuracy of the sound level meter, ensuring reliable and accurate sound measurements.
  • Q. Why is calibration important for a Sound Level Meter?
    A. Calibration is essential to ensure that the sound level meter provides accurate and consistent measurements. Over time, factors such as wear, temperature, and humidity can affect the instrument's accuracy. Regular calibration with a calibrator helps maintain measurement reliability.
  • Q. What does the calibrator kit typically include?
    A. A typical calibrator kit includes Type 2 Sound Level Meter with 9V battery, windscreen, plus Sound Level Calibrator with mini screwdriver and 9V battery, stored in a hard carrying case.

I think we can all agree that the loss of one of our most important senses – “hearing”, is something we all want to prevent for as long as we can! A sound level meter is a device used to measure the intensity of sound waves. Being aware of the intensity of sound exposures helps you determine what precautions should to be taken to protect human ears from any noise that rises above the “safe” threshold.

A sound level calibrator is a tool that outputs “known” reference dB levels – typically (2) levels of 94 and 114dB @ a 1 kHz frequency. This allows for simple end user calibration of a sound level to ensure it’s at its best accuracy before each use.

With the SLM400-KIT you get both of these pieces together in a kit to monitor sound levels and ensure they are safe! These are widely used to test and verify sound levels for worker safety (OSHA), community noise ordinances, night clubs/concerts, airports, mines, athletic events, construction sites, vehicle testing, wind farms, new product noise reduction, and other applications.

The sound level meter meets IEC 61672-1 type 2, ANSI S1.4 Type 2 with ±1.5dB accuracy. It features a 35 to 130dB range plus A and C weighting with selectable fast/ slow response time. Includes 9V battery and windscreen, and hard carrying case. The kit is also available with a NIST Traceable Certificate option when ordering.
